1. Sofia

Sofia is the capital in the west of the country, below Vitosha Mountain. The city’s landmarks reflect more than 2,000 years of history, including Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Soviet occupation. Medieval Boyana Church has 13th-century frescoes. Built by the Romans in the 4th century, St. George Rotunda Church has medieval and Ottoman decoration dating to the 10th century.

2. Rila Monastery

The Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila, better known as the Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It's built in the 0th-century Eastern and contains fabulous frescos.

3. Plovdiv

Plovdiv is an ancient city built around 7 hills, in southern Bulgaria. The Regional Archaeological Museum chronicles the city’s history, with exhibits including mosaic panels, clay lamps and early coins. The Roman-era Ancient Theatre of Philippopolis, which once seated around 6,000, now hosts opera and concerts. A 3D movie at the Emperor Hadrian–era Ancient Stadium re-creates Plovdiv in the 2nd century A.D.

4. Vitosha

Vitosha, the ancient Scomius or Scombrus, is a mountain massif, on the outskirts of Sofia. Vitosha is one of the symbols of Sofia and the closest site for hiking, alpinism and skiing. Convenient bus lines and rope ways render the mountain easily accessible.

5. Koprivshtitsa

Koprivshtitsa is a historic town with monastries, in central Bulgaria, lying on the Topolnitsa River among the Sredna Gora mountains.

6. Tsarevets

Tsarevets is a medieval stronghold located on a hill with the same name in Veliko Tarnovo in northern Bulgaria. Tsarevets is 206 metres above sea level.

7. Bachkovo Monastery

The Bachkovo Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos, archaically the Petritsoni Monastery or Monastery of the Mother of God Petritzonitissa is a major Eastern Orthodox monastery in Southern Bulgaria.

8. Balchik

Balchik Bulgarian: Балчик, is a Black Sea coastal town and a seaside resort in the Southern Dobruja area of northeastern Bulgaria. The town sprawls scenically along hilly terraces descending from the Dobruja plateau to the sea.

9. Emen Canyon

West of Veliko Tarnovo is one of Bulgaria's most beautiful canyons and perfect example of Bulgaria's untouched nature The Negovanka Trail, crosses the canyon has wooden structures as steps and bridges are constructed to make the walk easier.

10. Belogradchik Rocks

The Belogradchik Rocks are a group of strangely shaped sandstone and conglomerate rock formations located on the western slopes of the Balkan Mountains near the town of Belogradchik in northwest Bulgaria. The rocks vary in color from primarily red to yellow; some of the rocks reach up to 200 m in height.

11. Dryanovo Monastery

The Dryanovo Monastery is a functioning Bulgarian Orthodox monastery situated in the Andaka River Valley, in Bulgarka Nature Park in the central part of Bulgaria five kilometers away from the town of Dryanovo.

12. Veliko Tarnovo

As one of the oldest cities in Bulgaria, Veliko Tarnovo is steeped in five thousand years of history. This small, picturesque city is home to one of Europe’s grandest medieval monuments, the Tsaravets Fortress.
